PHOTOGRAPHER ZACH GOLD SPEAKS ON SHOOTING DRAKE FOR VIBE MAGAZINE COVER
Drake is currently on the winter cover of VIBE Magazine which is out on newsstands now. Zach Gold is the photographer behind the shoot and in this statement from his agency he opens up a little bit about working with Drake.
According to VIBE, 2013 was the year Drake dropped the best album and became king and we definitely agree. The cover for this issue of VIBE features up-close black and white portraits of Drake.
“I had a few conversations with the magazine’s team about my approach,” Gold remembered. “Drake is a great, easygoing guy and in most images, he’s wearing a huge grin, so I wanted to show a different side of him – something internal and aggressive.” Shooting black-and-white closeups added to the intensity of the portraits.
Gold opened up his Brooklyn studio to the musician and his team. “They’re all friends from high school and you can feel the connection,” he noted.“When Drake arrived, we talked about the creative direction and he was on the same page. I think the pictures came out really well and achieved what we wanted them to.”
These are some of my favorite photos of Drake so shout out to Zach Gold. If you haven’t already you can check out the cover story and behind the scenes video. Make sure to go out and grab your copy of the magazine!
